Amazonian Ambassador

Roger Bardales is the founder and first Ambassador of the Indigenous Amazonian Embassy, Ucayali Region, Peru. He has received national recognition from the Peruvian Ministry of Culture and local recognition from the Ministry of Culture of the Ucayali Region. As an Indigenous Amazonian Ambassador, his goal is to bridge the gaps that exist between indigenous communities and local and national authorities.
Roger Bardales seeks to bring about a substantial improvement in the standard of living for indigenous communities in terms of education, health, employment, and opportunities to overcome socio-economic obstacles.

Goals and Visions
His expertise is rooted in his life experience of growing up in a humble family amid discrimination and numerous social and economic challenges. His professional career in politics began at the local level when he was elected Chief of the CCNN Santa Martha de Pucallpa Indigenous Community. As community chief, he secured land titles for his community. He also facilitated the installation of access to running water and electricity for the entire community, as well as many other projects.
Roger Bardales is a visionary committed to a just, sustainable, and innovative future. He combines his life experience in a traditional Shipibo setting with his time living in various countries in Europe and the United States, along with his deep understanding of ancestral wisdom.

Life Experience
In 2023, Roger Bardales hosted the first regional Conference on 'Amazonian Traditional Medicine and Ancestral Knowledge' of the Ucayali Region in the Peruvian Amazon. The meeting was organized by the Regional Management of Development of Indigenous Peoples of the Ucayali Region (Gerencia Regional de Desarrollo de los Pueblos Indigenas Ucayali), the Regional Ministry of Health (La Dirección Regional de Salud de Ucayali DIRESA-Ucayali) and the Regional Ministry of Culture (Órgano Desconcentrado de la Dirección Desconcentrada de Cultura de Ucayali). It took place in the 'Mokanranko Recreational Center' located on Av. Saenz Peña in the Shipibo-Konibo Community of Santa Martha, Pucallpa.
The aim was to foster greater intercultural understanding between the scientific perspective of the state healthcare system and the ancestral Indigenous worldview and healing traditions. It was also intended to improve healthcare provision for the indigenous population, which continues to be characterised by discrimination and malnutrition, as well as disproportionately high rates of infant mortality and infectious diseases (malaria, dengue, COVID-19, etc.).
