Shipibo-Konibo Master Healer Mokanranko

Roger Bardales grew up in a traditional Shipibo-Conibo village in very modest financial circumstances. He was an inquisitive, helpful and independent boy with a great passion for fishing.

His teacher, Benito Bardales, taught him medicine according to the ancestral Shipibo tradition and took the boy into the forest so he could begin his 'Dieta' of sacred amazonian plants and thereby learn from the spirits of the plants. His experience of complete immersion in the virgin forest of the Contamana region in the Peruvian Amazon has left an indelible mark on him. Roger completed parts of his 'Dieta' — while still a child — in absolute solitude, surrounded only by the native flora and fauna and the spirits of the jungle.

At a young age, Roger completed several very demanding 'Dietas', such as the Diet of Ayahuma (Couroupita guianensis), Bobinsana (Calliandra angustifolia), Tobacco (Nicotiana rustica), Tamamuri (Brosimum angustifolium), Chriricsanango (Brunfelsia grandiflora), Niwe Rao, Noya Rao, Planta de Vida and many others. In addition to his Amazonian plant 'Dietas', Roger Bardales also completed rigorous 'Dietas' involving various metals, precious stones, and natural and sacred waters.

Traditional Training as a Shipibo Healer and Teachings

His dedication to Ancestral Medicine—despite the many trials he has faced—has led him to attain the rank of a ‘Banco,’ the highest level in Shipibo Ancestral Medicine. Despite the obstacles, Roger continues to share his medicine and spread his profound wisdom on sacred ancestral medicine to his national and international disciples. His singing of sacred Ikaros from the ancient Shipibo-Konibo culture is unique and incomparable to other Masters. Samples of his Ikaros can be heard on 'Mukanranko Soundcloud'

His students describe Mokanranko as an empathetic, generous, ambitious, and humorous teacher, full of joy and love. To teach traditional ancestral medicine to his students, Roger Bardales has established a Healing and Teaching Center located near Pucallpa, in a setting surrounded by natural forest.

The center is located in an area that is naturally flooded by the waters of the Ucayalí River once every two years. The area then transforms into a unique place to experience the ancestral Shipibo way of life, where life slows down, the surface becomes a mirror of the sky, and one travels only by small wooden canoes. Those who have had this experience once cherish it in their memories as an amazing and unique once-in-a-lifetime experience.
